First it is important to note that the recall does NOT affect all Toyota vehicles. Only a certain number of models produced in certain factories are affected. The voluntary recall includes the following vehicles:
Avalon 2005-2010
Camry 2007-2010
Corolla 2009-2010
Highlander 2008-2010
Matrix 2009-2010
Rav4 2009-2010
Sequoia 2008-2010
Tundra 2007-2010
Even if you do have one of
these models, according to Toyota, it’s unlikely you’ll experience the problem
at all: “The incidence of this condition is rare and occurs gradually over a
period of time. It can occur when the pedal mechanism becomes worn and, in
certain conditions, the accelerator pedal may become harder to depress, slower
to return or, in the worst case, stuck in a partially depressed position.”
However, despite how unlikely it is that you’ll experience the problem, Toyota
has issued this voluntary recall to make sure that all Toyotas are safe and
reliable.
Toyota has not stated that you need to stop driving your vehicle or that it is inherently unsafe to drive, however, it is very important that you be aware of the condition, know how to identify it and understand what to do if it happens to you.
Each circumstance may vary, and drivers must use their best
judgment, but Toyota recommends taking one of following actions:
Toyota has voluntarily issued this recall without any
government or agency intervention. Toyota felt that it was important to
maintain the utmost quality and reliability of their products. Toyota of
Batavia is extremely proud of the proactive approach Toyota has taken to
resolving this issue and is reassured as to our decision to represent Toyota
products and services.
